Meet Jon

The Mind Behind Education Innovators

Jon’s education journey began with a simple mission: to help every student reach their potential. As a public school teacher and principal, he dedicated himself to this goal but soon found that the traditional system simply can’t meet the needs of every child. Public schools are asked to be all things to all people, teaching to the average child. But no child is truly “average”—each needs something unique. From students struggling academically to those bored because the material was too easy, Jon saw firsthand how one-size-fits-all education failed many.

In his transition to education policy, Jon discovered microschools—small, flexible schools started by passionate educators. Unlike traditional schools, microschools allow for personalized learning, creating environments where students thrive, teachers feel fulfilled, and parents are satisfied. Inspired by this model, Jon founded the Education Innovators Association as a Chamber of Commerce for microschool founders and other education innovators, offering them a network, business resources, and a voice in policy.

As a father of five, Jon knows firsthand that each child is unique. His own children thrive in different educational settings—some in microschools, some homeschooled, and others learning through a mix of programs. His personal experience fuels his commitment to helping founders overcome obstacles, such as outdated zoning laws and restrictive building regulations. Jon’s advocacy has already made a difference: after championing a Utah law to reduce zoning and occupancy barriers, founders like Sabrina Reynolds of Mastery Learning Academy are now empowered to keep their schools open and thriving.
